On December 30, 2024, the Beijing-Yuxian Expressway, primarily invested, constructed, and operated by China Railway Group Limited, was fully opened to traffic. Following the opening of the West Sixth Ring to Lingshan section on July 1, this phase extends from Lingshan Interchange to the Zhangjiakou-Zhuozhou Expressway in Hebei Province, completing a major transportation corridor connecting western Beijing to Hebei and advancing coordinated development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
The Junzhuang Yongding River Bridge, with a main span of 188 meters, is currently Beijing’s largest continuous rigid-frame bridge. The Anjiazhuang East Bridge, the world’s first double-span, synchronous-rotating curved steel truss cable-stayed bridge constructed on high-altitude piers, stands over the Yongding River. The Xiaolongmen Tunnel, a super-long tunnel crossing the Beijing-Hebei border, features a brightly lit fatigue alert zone, becoming a striking new landmark in western Beijing.
The Beijing-Yuxian Expressway is a key transportation project for the integrated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. As the only major expressway corridor directly west of Beijing, it connects Beijing’s West 6th Ring Road with southern Zhangjiakou. It also links Shanxi Datong through the Erlianhaote-Guangzhou Expressway, western China through the Rongwu Expressway, and the revolutionary area of the Taihang Mountains through the Taihang Mountain Expressway. With the full opening of the expressway, travel time between Beijing’s West 6th Ring Road and Weixian has been reduced from three hours to less than two, while travel between Zhuolu County and Beijing is now within one hour. This project plays a significant role in strengthening coordinated development, economic and industrial transformation, tourism, and rural revitalization in the region.
